Located directly across Charleston Harbor from the Charleston Peninsula, Mount Pleasant has experienced exponential population growth in recent decades. Mount Pleasant is best known for the charm of its historic Old Village, which has an English-speaking settlement history that dates back to 1690. Mount Pleasant’s most popular tourist attraction is the Patriot’s Point Naval and Maritime Museum, featuring the USS Yorktown, a Word War II era aircraft carrier. Another popular tourist draw is Shem Creek, which serves as a hub for seafood restaurants, shrimp boats, public walking trails and water recreation activities.
